Glenna's Story

I am a mother of 3, grandmother of 5 and greatgrandmother of 3. I sure do feel OLD! I am disabled so spend much time at home and in physical therapy. I use a walker when I have to but use an elec. wheelchair where it is possible. My endurance is not very good but I keep working at it. Throuh the years I was a military wife and traveled to Guam and Holland. In between we were stationed in Great Falls, MT (Malmstrom AFB), Vandenberg AFB, CA, Buckley ANG Base, Aurora, CO, Scott AFB, IL, and Gunter AFB, Montgomery, AL. I now live in Florence, MT and my oldest daughter who is also disable lives with me. My youngest daughter is my caregiver. My son has recently retired from the Navy and is now living in Pensacola, FL. He is working for a civilian company now. A few months ago he got back from Africa. It looks like his next trip might be to someplace in Europe., Through the years I have worked as Claim Insurance secretaries, Managed an Arts and Craft Center while in Holland, worked as a volunteer secretary in the staff judge advocates office in Holland, was a secretary at Auburn University in the Justice and Public Safety Department in Montgomery, AL, was a temp receptionist-secretary at a sexual and physical abuse clinic for adults and children, Receptionist-Secretary for the YWCA where we trained women that had never worked or had been many years since they had worked an found themselves needing to support themselves, Univ. of Montana in Missoula in the Army ROTC Dept., and was a dispatcher for husband in our business when he was plowing snow and traveled with him when he was hauling house logs. So you see, I was busy until I got ill and a divorce. I have a dog that is a real love. He is a black and tan cocker. We also baby sit (part time) a huge black dog (part rot and partchow)the 2 dogs get along well together but...Expand for more
the big dog is named Ursus He is my daughters husband. Frequently we have wild turkeys (aprox 1 1/2 doz), deer, ducks and anything else that wanders through the area. It is not unusual to have Mt. Lions, bears, fox, and seldom an elk or moose. I could never live in a city again unless I could get away from all the noise of a large city every now and then. In May of 2011, I spent 6 months in the hospital and nursing home. I have had Lymphedema for about 20 years. But every Doctor I went to said they didn;t know what it was or they refused to do surgery. By the time we found a Dr. I was in bad shape, and could only take 2 steps and then my oldest daughter would put a chair behind me and we would start a rest, then my youngest daughter would help me up and I would take 2 steps and the entire process would start again. We went into my Doctors office and he told us if I didn't get surgery very fast I stood a high chance of my passing away. He had researched this condition.and had operated on it before. I told him I would go to the hospital right now. A week or two later I went into the hosplital. After the 4 th surgery it looks like he cut out 200 lbs, I had to learn how to walk again I will go back into surgery shortly. I told him I must be healthy again as my grandson is getting married and i want to feel well, My surgery has got me writing a briefings for nursing classes. My doc will give his briefings at the different medical briefings he goes to if he can get into a good series, We have pictures of before surgery.so they can see for themselves at the briefings and said he would take me along. I am thrilled as it is a necessary. If I had been diagnosed even 10 years ago I would have been so much better for not only me but also for the doctor. If you have any questions, just ask..
